Rev. Dr. Solomon L. Drake united with the Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Alzo W. Lott in 1962. Pastor Drake heeded God’s call to the ministry and preached his initial sermon on April 22, 1968 and was ordained on August 19, 1970. In 1975, he received his first pastoral calling with the Santa Barbara Avenue Baptist Church and later organized the Good Fellowship Baptist Church.
In 1982 following the death of founding Pastor, Rev. Lott, Pastor Drake was called to Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and installed as Pastor on September 19th. The congregation of the Good Fellowship Baptist Church voted to join with Greater Ebenezer becoming one congregation. Pastor Drake’s ministry has been characterized by love - love for God and for God’s people. He has believed in and espoused the power of prayer and lived a life of integrity and faith in the face of challenges, while remaining true to his calling.
Pastor Drake has been called a pastor’s Pastor. Preachers and pastors throughout the nation have called him their pastor and Greater Ebenezer their home. During his tenure as Pastor, he shared the Greater Ebenezer pulpit with over 70 Associate Ministers and welcomed many visiting pastors, evangelists and ministers from across the country. In 1992, the Southern California School of Ministry conferred an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in recognition of his contributions to the evangelical community. In April 2018, we celebrated Pastor Drake's 50th Anniversary of preaching the Gospel message!
Rev. Dr. Solomon Louis Drake has made full proof of his ministry. He has fed the flock of God. He has labored in the Word and doctrine. He has fought the good fight of faith. He has endured hardness as a good soldier. He has worked hard and leaned on God harder. He has preached to us boldly, prayed for us incessantly, counselled us patiently, mentored us lovingly, encouraged us joyfully, comforted us gently, and lived before us humbly and righteously. He has pastored us well. He has been and continues to be a blessing to the body of Christ, and we are all better for having known him.
Pastor Drake has been married to the former Isabelle Dunlap since 1968. They have been blessed with two sons, one daughter and one grandson.
